The “FAV” (favorites) button was designed to save internet radio stations that your radio is able to play aside from any preset Pandora stations you may have.  With more than 16,000 stations available on the www.reciva.com radio station list,it is sometimes hard to sift through them.  Pandora station will not save to the favorites.  When you are listening to Pandora you are limited to the number of stations you can listen to (depending on the type of Pandora account you have).  They can be easily accessed by scrolling up and down with the arrow keys.  Below is a link to a video about  how to connect to the Reciva Internet radio and tv stations:

To get access to the Backlight controls you must first start from the base radio menu (hit back until you get there). From the base menu select “Settings,”- scroll down to the “Backlight,”- option, select “Backlight”, then select “Inactive,”-The adjustment allows adjustment from 0 (off) to 31 (max brightness). You can also adjust the radio’s standby backlight settings using the same method.

Pandora does log you off after a while.  A sleep timer may be found within the Settings menu.

Yes, when you plug headphones into the front of the Livio the speaker shuts off and the volume is then controlled with the knob located on the front of the Livio Radio.  If you want to have the speaker on and use an external audio system (like a home stereo) you can connect your audio cable to the Line out jack on the back of the unit and still use both the Livio’s speaker and your separate home stereo.

Yes, we include an auxiliary input on the Livio. You will need to have a 1/8  inch stereo cable to connect your MP3 player to the Livio.

No, the Livio Radio does not currently support streaming media connections from your home computer to the radio. We chose not to include this feature because we wanted to keep the Livio Radio as simple as possible. In our experience “less is more” with music and we designed the Livio Radio to connect to Pandora with as few hassles as possible.

Yes, the Livio uses a customized Reciva portal that is accessed through the Livio Radio. No computers are required with the Livio Radio. In other words you do not have to access Reciva through the Internet with a computer. The Livio Radio is all you need.

The Livio plays both the left and right audio channels through the single speaker. We include a stereo Left/Right output for connecting to your home system. Currently we do not plan to sell a satellite speaker system.

Yes. We include an output jack that allows users to a home stereo, computer or portable player. Your home speaker system will need to have RCA (red/white) inputs or a smaller input labeled  “AUX IN”, or something. The Livio Radio has a 1/8 inch stereo line output as well as a RCA (red / white) output with the included adapter.

For Apple/Mac computers: Select the Carmen application (Carmen.app) in the device directory.

For PC/Windows computers: Select CarmenWin32.exe for 32 bit windows users, (if you are not sure try 32 first) CarmenWin64.exe for 64 bit versions of Windows.

Mac: Right click on the icon for the Carmen on your desktop.  Then select “Eject Carmen”.

PC: Open “my computer” right click on the Carmen icon and select “eject”.

Once the device is not displayed, you may safely eject the USB cable.

Click on the “erase all recordings” icon in the application. Currently, there is no option to delete songs one at a time.

To use the Carmen software, the most recent version of Java must be installed on your machine.  Please go to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp for the latest version.

If you are unable to hear the Carmen software while it is running on your computer, it does not mean that the Carmen is not recording.  The software may be muted, or some other system setting may be causing the problem.   Try testing out other music/audio sources to make sure the computer is working properly.  (ex. Pandora.com or iTunes)

This means the content you are attempting to play is either corrupt or incompatible.

Please check if the Carmen is receiving 12v power from your car.  If the display is illuminated, and you are still unable to hear music, please check how the Carmen is connected to your stereo.

If you are using the RF transmitter to tune in to your FM radio, please try out several frequencies.  ex 87.5 93.9, and 107.3.  It may take several attempts to find a suitable match.

You may also connect a pair of headphones directly to the Carmen.  This will test the stereo audio output on the side of the Carmen.  In most cases the supplied 2.5mm-3.5mm audio cable and female coupler will be needed to convert the jack size for most headphones (3.5mm 1/8in).

A folder named “MP3s” exists in the carmen root directory.  All MP3s should be placed in this folder to allow playback with the Carmen.  The MP3s folder may be accessed by using the folder skip button on the remote control.

The Carmen will check for updates automatically every 30 days.  To force an upgrade you may go to the Carmen Settings menu and click on about/check for updates.  If an update is available, the device will direct you to our download page.

After downloading and expanding the files, simply copy all of them over to the Carmen.  (Replacing all of the old files)

Not all stations broadcast on the internet.  If the station is online, but not on the Carmen, contact us with the station’s streaming info.  If we can verify the stream is compatible, we will add it to the directory.  Radiotime uses a reliability filter to ensure only well maintained streams are available.

First check both the Carmen and car stereo volume settings.  The Carmen allows you to broadcast between 87.5Mhz – 108Mhz FM.  Select an open frequency not being used by local FM radio on both the Carmen and your car stereo. Now that both your car stereo and Carmen are set to the same frequency you should hear the broadcasting content.

There are two options, 1. connect the Carmen via the supplied audio cable to the Aux (Auxiliary) input of your stereo, 2. Use the RF Transmitter of the Carmen to broadcast the signal to your car radio, similar to a radio station.

When you get the message asking for your network key/password please enter in the password to access your router via wifi.  You may want to check the password to your network first as it is case sensitive and you may need to use both upper and lower case letters.

We don’t currently support proxies.  The radio’s audio-rendering is done by Helix and the current version of Helix that the module uses doesn’t support proxies.  You may connect to the 16,000 plus Reciva Internet radio stations outside the United States.  Pandora restricts access to non U.S. residents.  The video link below shows you how to connect to those stations found on www.reciva.com:

You need to enter the hexadecimal (0-9 and A-F) version of the WEP WPA or WPA2 password as opposed to the shorter key you would use regularly to log on.  Below is a link to the Apple support page about how to look up the equivalent key after it has been converted. The longer the key you use, the longer the hexadecimal key will be, often exceeding 45 characters:

Your problem with the wireless network may be one of two things:

If your radio is in range of your wireless network but still experiencing problems, one possible cause is interference.  There may be an electrical device that is causing the 2.4-ghz signal you are using to be interrupted to the point that it can not recover from the buffering.  This can usually be fixed by moving either your router or the radio away from potential sources of disruption that can come from inside or outside of your home (common examples include refrigerators, air conditioners, microwaves, panes of insulated glass, etc.).  Here is a good article:

You may also try broadcasting on a different channel. The least commonly used channels are 3,9, and 11.  The best performance can be achieved  using the latest forms of encryption WPA or WPA2, (as opposed to the outdated and less secure WEP.)  Try adjusting your router to broadcast in the G band only. Broadcasting in multiple channels can -limit the range of your network on some routers(B,G, and N all at the same time).

You may need to adjust your wireless settings a little.  Here are some suggestions: Make sure you reboot your radio by unplugging it from the back of the unit after making any changes, or if your radio gets stuck in a loop. Try adjusting your router to broadcast in the G band only; broadcasting in multiple channels can  limit the range of your network. (B,G, and N all at the same time). Unless  you have a need t do higher that 54 Mbps transfers from PC to PC, the N band does not add that much to a network ( most broadband cable/dsl Internet connections faciliate transfers  at a maximum of 15 Mbps). Simply removing the N band has tripled the ranfe on sme of our customers radios. You may also try broadcasting on a diffrent channel. The least commonly used channels are 3,9, and 11. The best performance can be acheived using the latest forms of encryption, WPA of WPA2, as opposeed to the outdated ad less secure WEP. Lastly, you may want to wipe out any settings you have made to your radio’s network settings by performing a factory reset. Click on the link below:

No, you do not need a computer running to access Pandora on the Livio. The only thing that needs to be running are a your wireless router and a modem so there is an Internet connection (wireless or non-wireless).

The Livio Radio works with nearly all home and personal wireless systems.We have yet to find one where the radio hasn’t worked with . It is important to note that for offices with higher security, or for networks that require you to sign into a Web browser with a password, the Livio Radio may not work. Typically these types of networks are not used in the home.
If your network has a password you will automatically be asked to enter it using the knob on the Livio Radio screen. Once you enter the password  the Livio Radio will save it so you do not have to enter it again.

There are a variety of different security standards available and we support all of the most common, including but not limited to WEP, WPA and WPA2.

Yes, The NPR radio by Livio allows you to browse archived NPR content.  Recorded material is usually made available within 24 hours of the broadcast.   You may browse recorded music, shows, and podcasts just by pressing the NPR button.  Content is usually archived and available for 2 weeks, however, some programs that air less frequently are stored up to two months.

The My Stuff menu is for adding custom content to your NPR radio through the Reciva.com website.

To add a podcast or station that is not already listed in the directory, the radio must first be registered on the http://livio.reciva.com website. Pandora is licensed for use in the United States.  If Pandora detects that you are connecting from outside the United States this message will appear on the screen when first connecting to the Pandora music service.

If you are using Pandora within the United States and still getting the message, it may be necessary to reboot the radio.  To force the Pandora service to check your location once more, remove the power from the radio, and reboot it.

Listeners can optionally restrict Pandora from playing songs with Explicit content on all their stations.  Click on the “account” link in the upper right corner of the Pandora home page and click on the link next to “Allow explicit content”.

Enabling this filter will limit Pandora to playing music that could play on daytime broadcast radio.

There is a function called “Pandora Reset” that can be found in the Pandora submenu from “Internet Radio.”  You must confirm the reset, and once you do so there will be no Pandora account associated with the device.  To set up a different Pandora account or email address  that the Livio will use re-sync the radio on our Website link below:

The registration key can be found in the “Settings” menu, the third option from the base menu.  From there select “Register.”  If you are unable to get the key and the radio gives you an error message it is likely that you do not have a connection to our central server.  You may want to check your network settings.  If you are trying  to connect via a wireless setup, try connecting  the Ethernet cable directly to your router.  Reboot the device and try getting the key once more.  Below is a link to a video showing you how to pull both the registration key and serial number from the Livio Radio:

Pandora allows you to bookmark a song or artist so that when you log in to your Pandora account online you can get more information about what you were listening to.  The reply button on the remote gives you several options.

1. Song Details: Title, artist, and Album

2. Bookmark Song: Keep track of your old favorites or new songs Pandora finds for you.

3. Bookmark Artist : Mark favorite artists to find more songs by them, or similar artists.

4. Explain Song: Gives the reason that Pandora selected the song  you are listening to.

You get two options when you set up Pandora on your Livio Radio. One option is to set up a brand new Pandora account. The second option is to link your existing Pandora account to your Livio Radio, which will allow your Pandora stations you have created on your computer or on your mobile phone to show up on the Livio Radio.  If you are having trouble, you should check to make sure that you are using the same account on your PC that you have registered on your Livio Radio. Please note,you do not need to have an existing Pandora account to purchase and use the Livio radio. You can easily create a new Pandora account.

Yes, the Livio displays both the song title and artist for Pandora and many Internet radio stations.

Hundred of Internet radio stations can be saved in the “FAV (favorites)” list. Pandora sets the number of Pandora stations that can be stored on all Pandora devices.

Currently only one Pandora account per radio is supported.

On the Livio radio there is a section where your Pandora created stations appear when you link the Livio to your account. That is where you will find the QUICK MIX station as well. You cannot,however, edit the QUICK MIX from the Livio. Quick Mix editings  has to be done online when you are logged into your Pandora account.

On the Livio there is a menu option in the Pandora menu called ”Pandora Reset.”

It is important you get the correct serial number by scrolling once  to the right after selecting the Version option.  The correct number should start with a zero and not a “V”.  The registration key can be found in the settings menu as well.  It can be found under the “Register” option, and is seven characters long (both numbers and letters).  Please watch the video for a step by step walk through about how to sync your radio with Pandora.  Below are two video links that demonstrate how to sync your account:
