Associate Product Manager for Cool Consumer Electronics Company – Ferndale, MI
We’re looking for someone with a passion for product development, engineering, and technology. Must be flexible to work nights and weekends plus some travel. The Associate Product Manager will have responsibility for testing and documentation of all features and benefits for current products while working with engineering and the product management team to select and implement new features & technologies within our products and our partners.
You can get just about anything working without an instruction guide. You know every setting and every menu on every gadget you own and can explain why it’s there (or why you wish it wasn’t.) You know and can explain all the audio and video outputs on a stereo, how they work, and which one is the best for any given situation. You’ve probably installed a few car stereos (at some point) for yourself and friends. You are have an app on your phone for everything and can explain why the app you use is better than a similar one you don’t use.
This position reports to Jake Sigal, our CEO. However, being a product manager requires working with all functions of the business.
Note: you must have a 4-year engineering degree with at least 2 years work experience to apply for this position and be able to work in our Ferndale, MI office.
Assistant Product Manager Role:
- Product Management: Be the expert on everything Livio, including every feature of every product, how it works, and why.
- Organize and document all product information including specifications, software history, user guides, videos, product revisions, new features, and legal compliance documents.
- Manage the life cycle of products.
- Review information within all internal websites and retail customers to make sure all of the product information is accurate and up to date.
- Work with customer service to manage our FAQ and open feature requests with weekly review meetings.
- Participate in all product marketing and branding meetings.
- Manage bugs and future improvements for current products in production.
- New Product Development
- Read blogs daily and be up to the minute on technology announcements then share it with the company with a monthly technology update.
- Evaluate 3rd party products and provide competitive analysis for engineering and sales.
- Coordinate internal alpha and beta testing and manage outside beta testers.
- Sales Support
- Travel around the world as needed to support the sales team (expected travel between 10% and 20%)
Required Special Skills & Qualifications:
- Must have a 4-year Bachelors degree in Engineering, (software, electrical, operations, or systems preferred.)
- Must have passion for and knowledge of the Consumer Electronics industry.
- Must know audio and video technology (e.g. the difference between XLR balanced, A2DP Bluetooth, and S/PDIF)
- Knowledge and experience with Mac operating systems and proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Must be able to type 40 words per minute. (yes, we will test you)
- Must have a valid drivers license and a vehicle for travel (expenses reimbursed.)
- Must be a US citizen or have a Work Permit (Employment Authorization Document) to prove you may work in the United States.
- Must have a passport, which is eligible to travel into China (with a Visa OK.)
- Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Must be able to travel internationally.
Bonus Skills (Not Required but we’d like to know if you have them):
- Music and audio background (DJs, bands, sound tech, play an instrument, etc)
- Experience using Microsoft Project and/or Merlin for Mac.
- Experience with product development for mobile apps and/or connected mobile hardware.
- Automotive aftermarket experience.
- Speak Mandarin – Chinese
