Internship – Public Relations and Social Media

Livio Radio makes The NPR Radio and the Livio Radio featuring Pandora. We’re a fast growing company working with some of the largest brands and retailers in the world. We a work hard, play hard casual type of office and are hiring two Public Relations Interns to work out of our Ferndale, MI office. Our products include consumer electronics (gadgets) and mobile phone applications.
We’re looking for someone with some serious hustle and in return, we’ll help you get into the PR game. The Public Relations intern will be responsible for pitching press, distributing news, tracking coverage and otherwise assisting the public relations department.

This is an internship position in the company reporting to the Brand Manager as part of the Livio team and interacting with public relations professionals involved with Pandora, NPR and Grooveshark. Immediately you’ll be reaching out to our media contacts with the goal of securing coverage for our company and products. Must be flexible to work nights and weekends.

 

Be ultimately responsible for support and execution of basic media relations activities including:

  1. Call press directly for company news or events and coordinate coverage
  2. Build and maintain press lists for media announcements.
  3. Coordinate and update a variety of files and reports
  4. Assist in coordinating and arranging promotions
  5. Assist with media relations and research
  6. Fulfilling social media content needs – writing, photography, fun contests, videos, etc. – we’re pretty open to new ideas too.

Required Special Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must live in the Ferndale area during internship
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s in related field – Journalism, Public Relations, Communications.
  • Knowledge and experience with Mac operating systems and proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Must have a pleasant, friendly style
  • Must have a valid drivers license and a vehicle for marketing related travel (expenses reimbursed)
  • Must be a US citizen or have a Work Permit (Employment Authorization Document) to prove you may work in the United States
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends

Bonus Skills (Not Required but we’d like to know if you have them):

  • Experience in technical writing
  • Knowledge of consumer electronics
  • Music and audio background

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Credit-only internships, can be evaluated for class credit
  • Hours: approximately 40 hours/week
  • Interns are preferred to be a junior or senior majoring in marketing, communications, public relations or broadcasting
  • Full resume and portfolio workshops at the close of the internship
  • Writing and learning sessions throughout internship
