What is Livio Connect?

• Livio Connect is a language (protocol) for getting applications to communicate with cars and consumer electronic (CE) devices. For example, consumers can press buttons on their steering wheel to control apps on their phones.
• Livio Connect allows cars and consumer electronics to display information from apps such as text, album art from mobile phone applications. Custom buttons such as radio presets, thumbs up, bookmarking, can also be programmed to control applications from the factory car stereo.
• Livio Connect also provides a list of compatible apps for every car or CE device, so consumers can learn about new apps that are available to download and use in their Livio Connected car or CE device.

How does Livio Connect Work?

• Applications communicate directly to cars and CE devices. There are no middleware or cloud applications required.
• App developers add a small piece of software to their mobile phone app to communicate with Livio Connected cars and CE devices.
• Cars and CE devices add Livio Connect software to their internal operating system (or Bluetooth chipset) to communicate with Livio Connected apps.
• Additionally, Livio manages an authentication server called the WOPR. The WOPR lets cars and consumer electronics choose which applications are allowed to Livio Connect to them. App developers also get to manage which cars and consumer electronics they Livio Connect to.

Why Livio Connect?

• Consumer Choice: Livio Connect lets app companies manage their brand (and software) directly. Consumers are going to use the apps they have on their phone regardless of what comes built into the car. Livio Connect lets these apps utilize the existing radio display and buttons in the car.
• Safety: Consumers keep hands on the steering wheel, not the phone.
• Simplicity: We are not a platform! The Livio Connect protocol lets applications work directly with the cars, without complex cloud servers, or third party “superapp” aggregators. We know that no single superapp can keep up with both consumer demand and the rate new apps are being developed (not to mention legal and geographical issues that come with a specific app.)
• Scalable: We know that the technology we use today will be replaced in under five years. By developing a protocol, it can be used across any system, even between two tin cans and a wire. “Futureproof” isn’t possible; however this is as close to “futureproof” as you can get. We like change and designed Livio Connect for it.
